Sensual explosion? Pure eccentricity? A
realm where fiction and fantasy meet?
Whatever thé words you choose, you can’t
deny that Pierre Shasmoukine had a stroke
of genius when he set up this artists’ king-
dom in a forest, 4km (2.5 miles) ’south of
Sarlat, in 1970. The visit includes curiosi-
ties such as the Folies Plastiques (plastic
madness), a jungle of plastic sculptures in
the garden; the Galeries Za, where artists
can expose their creations; and Oper-Sexis,
a multidisciplinary exhibition on commu-
nication between men and women. Visits
take place all day, but Pierre strongly
advises you to arrive at 5pm, with a picnic,
so you can see the lighting installations
after nightfall. You can even stay here for
25€ a night. Gorodka is signposted from
the center of Sarlat. Take the south exit
(Souillac, Gourdon) toward Village La
